SAFE SHOP TOOLS PRESS RELEASES:
NEW SERVICE TRUCK-FRIENDLY MODEL OF HIGH-TECH CYLINDER SLING GIVES A LIFT TO CRANES.
JUNE 1, 2005 , MISSOULA, MT – Responding to customer input, Safe Shop Tools, Inc. has created a new model of its popular BoaGrip™ tool.
18 inches shorter than the original, the BG 400-12 makes it even easier to lift compressed gas cylinders onto truck beds – an advantage for companies such as electric, water, and gas utilities, whose service truck fleets often have cranes with a limited range of vertical lift.
Safe Shop officials explain that when the original BoaGrip was launched in early 2000, users applauded it because it provided the first easy and safe way to carry and suspend cylinders of compressed gasses such as oxygen, acetylene and nitrogen. Not surprisingly, it was put to a wide variety of uses, which included lifting cylinders onto truck beds by suspending the tool from cranes mounted on light- and medium-duty trucks.
However, customers reported that with smaller service trucks, the 70-inch BoaGrip was too long to allow cylinders to clear the truck beds. Safe Shop responded by engineering the BG 400-12, which measures just 52 inches.
Like the standard BoaGrip, the new model has a unique inner surface of polymer grippers that provide a safe, efficient way to handle cylinders from 4 to 15 inches in diameter. And like the original, the new truck-friendly model is designed to allow users to suspend cylinders at a slight angle, making it easier to slip them into tight spots such as service truck cabinets and bed-mounted wells.
Company officials note that before the BoaGrip, there was no safe, efficient way to handle compressed gas cylinders; workers would risk injury by rolling or sliding them, lifting them in a bear hug or even rigging them with chains.
The BoaGrip provides a better way, with a design that resembles a high-tech lasso. When the tool is pulled taught, its polymer grippers force themselves onto the cylinder surface. They also keep their grip without being held, which allows a single worker to secure a cylinder and then rig it to a hoist, crane load hook or lift truck fork tine.
The BoaGrip BG 400-12 is the latest addition to the Safe Shop line of safety products. Officials at the Missoula, Montana company say their mission is to produce tools that make work easier, faster and safer for technicians, while helping employers comply with safety regulations.
